How much will your savings be worth in 10 or 20 years? Our Future Value Calculator shows the power of compound growth.
How to use the calculator (Future Value Calculator)
- Enter the amount today.
- Enter the annual growth rate.
- Enter the number of years.
- Optionally, add a monthly addition.
The formula
FV = PV × (1 + r)ᵗ
The rule of 72
To estimate how long money takes to double, divide 72 by the growth rate. At 6%, it doubles in about 12 years.
A worked example
With the calculator's default settings, £10,000 growing at 5% for 10 years becomes £16,289. At that rate, money doubles in about 14.4 years.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include inflation?
No. To see the value in today's prices, use a growth rate minus inflation, or our Inflation Calculator.
What about tax?
Growth in an ISA or pension is tax-free. Elsewhere, tax could reduce it.
