The National Examinations Board (NEB) in Nepal uses a letter grading system with grade points for Class 11 and Class 12 results. Our NEB GPA Calculator turns your marks into grades and works out your GPA, weighting each subject by its credit hours.
The NEB grading scale
| Marks | Grade | Grade point |
|---|---|---|
| 90 to 100 | A+ | 4.0 |
| 80 to 89 | A | 3.6 |
| 70 to 79 | B+ | 3.2 |
| 60 to 69 | B | 2.8 |
| 50 to 59 | C+ | 2.4 |
| 40 to 49 | C | 2.0 |
| 35 to 39 | D | 1.6 |
| Below 35 | NG (not graded) | 0 |
How GPA is worked out
Each subject's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the results are added up, and the total is divided by the total credit hours:
GPA = Σ (credit hours × grade point) ÷ Σ credit hours
Subjects with more credit hours count for more.
How to use the calculator (NEB GPA Calculator)
Type each subject as its name, credit hours and percentage, separated by semicolons. For example:
English 4 78; Nepali 3 72; Physics 5 85
You'll see your GPA, a table of grades by subject and any subjects marked NG.
A worked example
With the calculator's default subjects, totalling 25 credit hours, the grade points add up to 85.2, giving a GPA of 3.41. That's in the B+ band.
Theory and practical marks
NEB also sets minimum marks for the theory and practical parts of some subjects. If you don't reach them, the subject is marked NG even if your total is above 35. Your official mark sheet shows the final grades.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I get NG?
You haven't passed that subject and usually need to take a supplementary (grade increment) exam before you can get a final grade sheet.
Is GPA weighted by credit hours?
Yes, that's how NEB calculates it. The calculator also shows a simple average for comparison.
What GPA counts as a good result?
It depends on the course you're applying for. Many colleges set minimum GPAs or grades in particular subjects, so check their entry requirements.
Check your results quickly with the NEB GPA Calculator, and always rely on your official mark sheet for final grades.
