At the end of a meal, nobody wants to do maths. Our Tip Calculator works out the tip and splits the bill fairly.
How to use the calculator (Tip Calculator)
- Enter the bill amount.
- Enter the tip percentage.
- Enter how many people are splitting the bill.
- Choose whether to round each share up to the nearest pound.
How it works
- Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100
- Each person pays = (bill + tip) ÷ number of people
A worked example
With the calculator's default settings, a £64.50 bill with a 12.5% tip, split between 2 people:
- Tip: £8.06
- Total: £72.56
- Each person pays £36.28
Tipping in the UK
| Situation | Usual tip |
|---|---|
| Restaurants | 10–12.5% |
| Taxis | Round up or about 10% |
| Hairdressers | About 10% |
| Pubs and takeaways | Not expected |
Many restaurants add a 12.5% discretionary service charge to the bill. It's optional, and you don't need to tip on top.
