When your fixed or tracker deal ends, you'll usually move to your lender's standard variable rate (SVR), which is often much higher. Our Remortgage Calculator shows how much switching could save.
How to use the calculator (Remortgage Calculator)
- Enter your mortgage balance and years left.
- Enter your current rate, such as the SVR.
- Enter the new deal rate and length.
- Enter the fees to switch and any early repayment charge.
How it works
The calculator compares monthly payments at the two rates over the rest of your term, then subtracts the costs of switching to show your saving over the new deal.
A worked example
With the calculator's default settings, a £180,000 mortgage with 20 years left, moving from 7.5% to 4.4% for 5 years with £999 of fees:
- Monthly saving: £320.99
- Break even after 4 months
- Saving over the 5-year deal: £18,261
Frequently asked questions
When should I start looking?
Most lenders let you secure a new deal up to 6 months before your current one ends.
Should I stay with my lender?
A product transfer with your current lender is often quicker, with no legal work. Compare it with the rest of the market.
Should I add fees to the loan?
It avoids paying upfront, but you'll pay interest on them.
